A $16.5M project using AI to power proactive student wellness
Overview
A research-backed wellness tool to support Dartmouth students
Evergreen is an all-in-one wellness app built for Dartmouth’s culture and pace, supporting student wellbeing through proactive, personalized check-ins rather than replacing counseling services. It meets students in everyday moments, helping them reflect, build habits, and manage stress before it escalates.
I’m leading design of the end-to-end mobile experience, including onboarding, chat experience, and behavioral insights, working across product, engineering, and research teams to translate complex sensing data into meaningful, everyday support for 4,500+ students.
Projected impact
V1 of Evergreen is projected to launch for internal testing in Spring 2026. The project has received media coverage from multiple news outlets, including Forbes and MassLive. A full launch of Evergreen is anticipated for late 2027.

Problem
Busy college life makes wellness hard to prioritize
College students, especially in Dartmouth’s fast-paced quarter system, juggle demanding coursework, relationships, and extracurricular commitments, often deprioritizing their health and wellbeing.

Opportunity
AI is creating new opportunities for proactive personalized support
Researchers are exploring how AI can complement human wellness resources by providing accessible, personalized support outside of traditional counseling settings.

Context
A multi-year collaboration
Multiple teams are working across dialogue design, AI model development, mobile engineering, research, and UX. My team and I are designing the student-facing mobile experience.
Solution
Guided conversations that match student needs
Conversations are designed to feel personal and relevant to campus life, and are written by a content team of 100+ Dartmouth undergraduates. Topics range from building healthy habits to making better connections on campus.

Calendar suggestions

Data patterns turned into personalized suggestions
The app integrates passive sensing data from a student’s everyday activities and schedule, and voluntary information like sleep, mood, or steps to provide behavior and schedule-based suggestions.
Calendar suggestions
Integrated chat tools for everyday support
Students can track their wellbeing, explore their environment, and manage their time, all in one place. Each chat module is designed to be flexible, interactive, and integrated into the chat experience.
Activity suggestions
Reflect on daily habits at school over time
The app visualizes trends in mood, sleep, and steps, turning raw data into actionable insights to spot patterns and track progress.

Research
Understanding students’ attitudes towards AI wellness
Behavioral researchers on the team ran focus groups with Dartmouth students to understand their attitudes toward AI support, privacy, and wellness tools. Because of IRB (human-subject research) restrictions, we didn’t have access to full transcripts. Instead, we worked carefully with quotes and synthesized insights.
“I’d find it helpful if it gave you suggestions, for example like sleep…times we recommend for you to sleep based on how you normally sleep”
“The best part would be if it’s convenient and doesn’t add more work to my schedule already”
“Something about meal times, because I tend to forget to eat sometimes”
“It would be nice if there was an easy way to mark down when I get something done…or when I’m being productive like reaching a goal that I want to get to”
“It should figure out what you’ve been doing that makes you feel more positive”
“Predictive models…gradually the app learns what markers indicate stress and it can start to infer stress”
“An app that just told me sooner, ‘Hey, maybe take a break from what you’re doing. It seems like you’re not doing too good.’ I think that would be really helpful”
“Canvas activity I think could be really helpful for some of my friends in particular. I think about how they struggle to submit things”
